Freeport and Tyler Island Bridges.

As I mentioned earlier, Freeport is almost identical to Walnut Grove Bridge. One difference is Freeport doesn’t have a walkway for pedestrians, but has a short for employees to get to the control house. Freeport’s control house is off the shore on the bridge itself. This makes the office vibrate like crazy with every vehicle going over the bridge. Kind of like having a constant massage all day.

Freeport Bridge

Tyler Island Bridge

Tyler Island Bridge is really different from the other three in that the whole bridge swivels on a post in the center including the control house which sits atop everything. To get to the control center you have to walk on the roadway( no sidewalks). There is a gate that leads to 39 stair steps up to the top. The stairs are closer in operation to a ladder than stairs. After you’re up top, it’s really cool. The view is the whole delta all the way to Mt Diablo. This bridge also sits over Georgiana Slough(slew) and is about half way between The Sacramento River and the Mokelumne River and is very near downtown Isleton.
